Day 1

COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK BIKING
The Cotopaxi National Park is high altitude nature and wildlife refuge established around the highest active volcano in the world. It offers one of Ecuador's best mountain biking experiences as it crosses through a unique paramo ecosystem under stunning volcano scenery. A support vehicle, a naturalist guide and high quality mountain biking equipment are included in this incredible volcano experience.

We depart from Quito driving south through the inter-Andean valleys until we reach the Cotopaxi National Park entrance. We explore the park looking out for wildlife while driving by many volcanoes in the area such as Ilinizas, Sincholagua, Rumiñahui and Pasochoa. We reach Limpiopungo Glacier Lake where we prepare our mountain bikes to ride through with spectacular highland plateaus while observing highland (paramo) vegetation and fauna, such as llamas, wild horses, ducks, gulls and even the magnificent Condor. We ride mostly downhill to compensate for the high altitude until we reach the Pucara Inca Ruins. After a nutritious lunch and snacks we drive to our Hacienda San Agustin del Callo for some rest
Day 2

PAPALLACTA HIKE

We depart the Hacienda after an early morning breakfast and drive north for about 3 hours, thru a very scenic road, until we reach Papallacta Hot Springs.  Here we can relax in any of the 9 different thermal pools, ranging in temperature from 97ºF to 104ºF (36ºC to 40ºC). Cloud Forest Mountains and an occasional snowcapped volcano surround these pools, with their mineral rich waters from underground geothermal springs. After lunch we discover the surrounding`s while we hike thru paths full of nature and later we return for Dinner and Overnight. Spa services such as massages, aromatherapy, and other optional treatments can also be arranged in advance at Papallacta Hot Springs.

Day 3

JUNGLE RAFTING ON THE JATUNYACU RIVER

After enjoying breakfast, we drive to Llanganates National Park, which extends from the high Andes down into the Amazon basin and is part of an area declared a Biosphere Zone by the United Nations. The water that collects in this area forms the Jatunyacu River, which is considered Ecuador's best one-day river run. We begin the day with a walk in the jungle to reach naturally-formed swimming pools. Upon our return and after a safety briefing, our whitewater rafting adventure begins. A trip down the Jatunyacu River offers spectacular jungle scenery, crystal-clear water, and glimpses into indigenous communities that live along the shores in small bamboo and wood houses. The Jatunyacu is also famed for its big waves, fun holes, and high volume of water (Class III - III+). We'll spend the rest of the day navigating the Jatunyacu, whose waters carry us through breathtaking landscapes with abundant bird life. In the afternoon, we drive to the picturesque Quijos Valley, one of the westernmost headwaters of the Amazon basin, to reach San Isidro, which lies at an elevation of about 2,000m (6,800 ft.) above sea level in a zone still mostly blanketed by extensive humid forest. This combination of factors means agreeable temperatures, exciting birds, and a diversity of other wildlife, including large mammals. Overnight Cabanas San Isidro.

Day 4

CLOUDFOREST HIKE AT SAN ISIDRO.
Cabanas San Isidro and its immediate surroundings boast a bird list of about 310 species, many of which are more easily found here than anywhere else in the country.  The trails we will hike lead through elevational gradients that pass through habitats from 2,400 meters all the way down to 1,850 meters, this is an ideal base to observe Andean birds from the lower reaches of the temperate zone down into the heart of the subtropical zone.

Some of the species we will find on our way are the White-capped Parrot, Powerful Woodpecker, Rufous-crowned Tody-Flycatcher, Pale-edged Flycatcher, Green-and-black Fruiteater, Inca Jay, Black-billed Peppershrike, Andean Solitaire or Saffron-crowned Tanager.  In the afternoon we return to the lodge and spend some time enjoying the hummingbird garden, a great place to relax after a long hike or during a rainy spell. Overnight Cabanas San Isidro

Day 5

GUANGO HIKE & RETURN TO QUITO

Today after breakfast we head to Guango, a property surrounded by temperate forest and very birdy flocks.  It lies at 2.700m on Ecuador's eastern slope.  This area is centered in a zone classified as humid temperate forest, a habitat distinctly different from San Isidro and characterized  by its more stunted trees (and thicker canopy), cooler climate, and different bird and plant composition.  After a small hike on the area, we will enjoy a delicious lunch and then head back to Quito.
