Quito - Otavalo - San Antonio - Quito (L/D)
Early in the morning we start this amazing adventure. First, we drive from Quito to Otavalo, which is one of the biggest cities where the Kichwa indigenous people live. Our steam locomotive will be waiting to take us to the San Antonio train station. This town is well known for both the wood handicrafts and the kindness of its people, and we'll experience both. We continue our trip with lunch at a traditional restaurant to sample the local flavors, while enjoying a great view of San Pablo Lake and Imbabura Mountain. Finally, we return to Quito by bus.
Quito - Ambato - Urbina - Riobamba (B/L/D)
On the second day, we’ll drive south to the train station in Urbina. We’ll travel through the famous Avenue of the Volcanoes where (depending on our luck with the weather) we’ll be able to see lots of mountains and the most representative volcanoes of the region. Upon arrival to the train station, we depart to the protected area close to Cotopaxi Volcano called “El Boliche,” where we can see the paramo vegetation and the colossal Cotopaxi.
Riobamba - Colta - Guamote - Alausí - Devil's Nose - Bucay (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we drive to the Colta Train Station, and from there our first attraction is the first church built in Ecuador in 1534 – the Balbanera Church. Then we'll continue on to a market of colorful crafts in Guamote, where you can see the skills of the local people or buy some souvenirs.
Bucay - Naranjito - Yaguachi - Durán (Guayaquil) (B/L)
Today we continue our adventure by traveling to the town of Duran; on our way there, we can admire the nice landscapes, learn more about some characteristics of the tropical forest, and also look out for different kind of plantations of cocoa, coffee, banana, or sugar cane. We'll stop in one traditional hacienda to learn more about the process and importance of some of these products. After these interesting activities, we will reach the Duran Train Station, where the tour concludes.
